November might have been the month for you to enjoy spectacular bonfires and honour our fallen service men and women, but did you know this month also offers days dedicated to raising awareness for World Diabetes, BBC Children in Need and National Stress Awareness? Though these dates have already past, there’s a lot still to look forward to, starting today; World Prematurity Day.
Today is the 5th World Prematurity Day!
Founded by The European Federation for the Care of Newborn Infants back in 2010. The charity dedicates itself to making a difference to the lives of preterm infants through global awareness. Thanks to the efforts made by EFONI, last year saw over 200 countries taking part in the day which helped change the lives of 1.6 billion people around the world.
Today they’re doing the same again. Head over to their website to see how you can help support them!
You may or may not have already heard of Alcohol Concern. The best thing about this charity is that they don’t hang around for a week in November before launching their campaigns and awareness ads. Alcohol Concern work throughout the year to spread awareness of the dangers of alcohol abuse and, with Christmas and New Year on the horizon, it’s no surprise that this week is dedicated to raising the awareness of units and alcohol limits.
Men, according to Alcohol Concern, should consume no more than 3-4 units a day while women shouldn’t consume more than 2-3 units. With issues such as underage drinking and drinking related illnesses on the increase, make sure you keep your eyes open this week!
In the meantime, if you’d like to find out more information, visit the Alcohol Concern website!
We’re sure you’ve heard of the recently popular Movember movement and the fact that men across the globe have started sporting eccentric and utterly uncharacteristic moustaches for the cause, but do you know about the charity itself?
Founded by The Movember Foundation in 2003, the charity’s aim is to raise awareness for men’s health. They cover a range of male related illnesses such as prostate cancer, poor mental health, physical inactivity and testicular cancer.
So where do the moustaches come into it? Well, during the month your moustache acts as an advert for the campaign to help the charity spread awareness of men’s health, plus they’re just plain cool!
The month of November is also dedicated to various cancer based charities; it’s Lung Cancer, Mouth Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, so there’s a lot you can do to help spread awareness for your charity.
