UK-based EPoS and technology experts, Nisyst, are marking three and a half successful decades supporting retailers with their innovative EPoS solutions, including helping recover over £100 million in Gift Aid for the UK charity sector.
In 1991, Nisyst was founded by brothers Bob and Dave Chunilal and quickly established itself as an early innovator of EPoS technology, including launching one of the UK’s first fully packaged EPoS solutions (NPoS) in 1992.
However, it was in the mid-2000s that Nisyst began to design pioneering technology to help charity shops maximise Gift Aid, the UK government scheme which helps charities reclaim the basic rate of tax for donations.
As a result, Nisyst have so far helped UK charities collect over £100 million in Gift Aid.
“In 1992, our NPoS solution was one of the first all-encompassing, full EPoS systems in the UK. This has steadily evolved into our current EPoS system specifically designed for the charity sector, ChariotWeb, which has helped our charity customers recover their share of the £1.7 billion paid in Gift Aid in 2025 alone” says Bob Chunilal, Managing Director of Nisyst.
According to the UK Government, significant growth in the UK charity sector saw a record £1.7 billion paid to charities in 2025, as Gift Aid conversions (the proportion of Gift Aided donated goods sales out of total donated goods sales) rose to 39.8% in Q4 2025, as reported by the Charity Retail Association.
As the UK’s most advanced cloud-based EPoS system specifically for the charity sector, ChariotWeb helps charities gain real-time visibility of stock and sales across all their locations and maximise income generation.
The system has been continually developed to meet the emerging needs of modern charities, with Nisyst stating that the strength, commitment and experience of their team has played a key role in its innovation.
“The majority of our senior software development team has been with us for over 25 years and those decades of experience really make a difference in anticipating charity’s needs and keeping ChariotWeb ahead of the curve” adds Bob.
By working closely with customers, Nisyst say they are able to quickly develop and launch innovative new modules that are frequently ‘first-to-market’.
This includes one of their most recent modules, Team Safe, which helps charities maintain staff visibility, protect lone workers and respond to emergencies.
This customer-led approach has positioned Nisyst as a leading innovator within the charity retail sector.
“Time has flown and though the technology we deliver today is unrecognisable from the early days, our approach has stayed the same! We hope to look back again in future decades and see how our technology has championed innovation and helped UK charities to grow and grow” concludes Bob.
Proudly independent and family-run, Nisyst remain focused on supporting the evolving needs of charity retail and continuing to develop their innovative EPoS solution which has been adopted by UK charities large and small.
With over thirty years of experience developing EPoS systems, Nisyst is a family-owned business whose main mission is to make technology work harder for the charity sector.
